Play Games Sidekick is Google’s biggest gaming launch in years. This AI assistant sits on top of your game and gives you real-time advice while you play. It also records your screen, captures screenshots, and lets you stream directly to YouTube. Best of all, it works automatically across dozens of popular games.
Google announced the feature at GDC 2026, and it is already rolling out to players worldwide. If you play mobile games on Android, this tool will change how you get through tough levels and boss fights.
For an overview of everything Google announced for gaming, see our pillar post on googlegames . For a full list of supported titles, read our Sidekick game compatibility list .
Play Games Sidekick is a floating panel that lives on top of your mobile games. It uses Google’s Gemini AI to see what is happening on your screen and offer helpful suggestions without you leaving the game.
Imagine you are stuck on a difficult boss in Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. Instead of pausing, switching apps, and searching for a walkthrough, you simply swipe from the right side of your screen. Sidekick pops up with tips tailored to your exact situation.
The tool also bundles several useful functions into one panel. You can take screenshots with one tap or start high-quality screen recordings. A Do Not Disturb toggle blocks notifications during intense gaming sessions. Content creators can stream directly to YouTube Live without installing third-party apps that drain battery and slow down performance.
Getting Play Games Sidekick running takes only a minute.
First, make sure your Play Games app is updated to the latest version. Open the Google Play Store, search for Google Play Games, and install any available updates. Next, launch a supported game. Swipe from the right edge of the screen inward. The Sidekick panel should appear.
If it does not appear, open the Play Games app separately and navigate to Settings. Look for the Sidekick option and ensure it is toggled on. You can also customize which tools appear in the floating panel. Choose whether you want tips, recording, or streaming as your default view.
The setup works the same across most Android phones. No special hardware or subscription is required. Sidekick is free to use for all Play Games users.
Play Games Sidekick will soon support voice interaction through Gemini Live.
Google has confirmed that players will be able to speak directly to the AI assistant while keeping their hands on the controls. You might say, “How do I beat this level?” or “What weapon should I use against this enemy?” and receive a spoken strategy guide in real time.
The voice feature is not yet available but is expected to arrive later in 2026. It will make the Sidekick even more useful for fast-paced games where you cannot afford to take your fingers off the screen.
Play Games Sidekick currently works with over 90 titles. Popular supported games include Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, FC Mobile, and Reigns. Google plans to expand the list significantly over the coming months.
A new developer program called Google Level Up requires game studios to integrate Sidekick support by July 2026. This mandate means the number of compatible games should grow rapidly as the deadline approaches.
For the complete list of supported titles, see our Sidekick compatibility guide .
Play Games Sidekick brings AI-powered help directly into your mobile games. It provides real-time tips, captures screenshots and recordings, and streams to YouTube—all from a simple swipe-in panel. Voice commands are on the way. And with over 90 games already supported and more arriving soon, the Sidekick is quickly becoming an essential tool for Android gamers.
