The long-awaited Instagram comment editing feature has officially arrived. After more than a decade of user requests, Meta quietly rolled out the ability to edit comments on April 10, 2026, and the update is now reaching users globally.
Once you post a comment, a new Edit button appears directly below it, next to Reply and Share on Threads. Tap it, change your text, and save. A small gray “Edited” label then appears next to the timestamp.
This update comes with a strict 15-minute window. You can only modify a comment within 15 minutes of posting it. After that, the comment becomes permanent. Instagram says this limit prevents abuse, such as completely changing a comment after it has received many likes or replies. The new functionality works only on plain text. If your comment contains a photo, GIF, sticker, or other media, only the written portion can be edited. The media stays the same. You can edit comments on feed posts, Reels, Stories, and even replies to other users.
A notable drawback is the lack of edit history. When you change a comment, Instagram does not save previous versions. Other users can see the “Edited” label, but they cannot click on it or view what you originally wrote. This is different from Facebook, Reddit, and YouTube, which often show full edit histories.
The Instagram comment editing feature is available on:
It is not yet available on the Instagram web browser version or on desktop apps. If you use Instagram on multiple devices, you might also want to review how to manage Instagram privacy settings to keep your account secure.
Several factors delayed this rollout:
Early feedback has been mostly positive. Many users celebrate finally being able to fix typos without deleting and reposting. The most common complaint is the 15-minute limit – some users notice mistakes hours later when the window has closed.

This update finally fixes one of Instagram’s longest-standing frustrations. While the 15-minute window and lack of edit history may not satisfy everyone, it is a clear improvement over the old delete-only system. Update your app and look for the Edit button.
