Upgrading to a new Kindle? You need to know how to transfer Kindle books to new device without losing anything.
When you transfer Kindle books to new device using Amazon’s cloud, it is automatic.
Step 1: Register your new Kindle with the same Amazon account
Step 2: Go to “Library” > “All”
Step 3: Tap each book cover to download
That is it. Your entire library appears instantly.
If you have a backup Kindle library on your computer:
Step 1: Connect old Kindle to computer via USB
Step 2: Copy the “documents” folder to your desktop
Step 3: Connect new Kindle to computer
Step 4: Paste the files into the new “documents” folder
This method works even if Amazon’s servers are down.
When you transfer Kindle books to new device via cloud, your highlights and notes sync automatically. USB transfer does not preserve annotations.
If you are upgrading because of the support cutoff, first download all books to your old device. Then transfer Kindle books to new device using the cloud method for best results.
Always register your new Kindle before selling or recycling the old one. That ensures you can transfer Kindle books to new device seamlessly.
